Anthony Clark and Zamar was founded by Pastor Anthony Clark as a ministry through music — a way to share the power of quartet singing and draw quartet lovers back to Sunday morning worship.
After hearing from God, with only two weeks to prepare and just one rehearsal, Pastor Clark sought the Lord for a name. God gave him Zamar.
The Hebrew word Zamar is one of the most significant biblical terms connected to musical worship in the Old Testament. Derived from the Hebrew root letters Z-M-R, it means to sing, to make music, or to play an instrument in praise. In ancient Hebrew culture, Zamar did not refer to singing alone — it described praise offered to God through both voice and musical instruments, especially stringed instruments such as the harp, lyre, and psaltery.
Throughout biblical history, Zamar represented far more than entertainment. It was considered an offering of honor to God, to be carried out with understanding, reverence, and skill. Psalm 33:3 instructs worshippers to "play skillfully," reflecting the value placed on musical excellence in worship.
Over time, Zamar came to symbolize worship through music — the unity of singing, instruments, and devotion as an essential part of Israel's spiritual life.
With this God-given name, Pastor Anthony Clark christened the quartet Anthony Clark and Zamar. The debut lineup featured Dennis Mitchell on guitar and vocals, Dion Bell on background vocals, Rickey King on bass guitar and backing vocals, Michael Williams on keys, and Kendall Jones on drums.
Rooted in the rich tradition of quartet music, Anthony Clark and Zamar will take you back to the very foundation of quartet singing.
